Cheap And Easy Recipes For Salads & Cooked Vegetables
Salads and cooked vegetables can sometimes become a bit routine and boring but they don't need to be.
Even in the heart of winter my family enjoys salads. We use a wide range of ingredients, trying to incorporate seasonal produce into our meals as much as possible. A lovely crispy, crunchy salad can be eaten as a meal in itself or eaten as a side dish with the main meal. Salads are very high in anti oxidants and therefore are extremely good for us if we value our health and longevity. Anti oxidants are thought to be effective in helping to prevent cancer, heart disease, and stroke.
Not just lettuce and tomato or boring old peas and carrots
In our salads we use edible flowers, nuts, beans, seeds and fruit. We try to make the salads as colourful as possible and this is not difficult with the bright colours of most salad ingredients.
One thing we all have to be careful of, though, is that we don't overload our salads or cooked vegies with dressings and sauces. These can be sometimes be very unhealthy and we can end up defeating the purpose of having a diet rich in vegetables. Enjoy these and then go on to create your own healthy vegetable dishes:
