To re-heat pizza place the slices in a non-stick frying pan and re-heat on the stove top. The base will crispen without the topping becoming burned.

To separate eggs and yolks try breaking the egg into a saucer, place an upturned egg cup on top of the yolk and, holding it tightly, bring the saucer up to a vertical position and allow the white to slip into a bowl. It works every time.

Save the water from boiled vegies and freeze it to use in soups or stews.

To prevent icing from sticking to the spreading knife try dipping it in hot water. Shake dry before placing back into the icing bowl.

If your biscuits are over cooked on the bottom try holding them over the sink and with a fine grater gently rub the biscuit back and forth across the grater until the brown areas are gone.

If you can't remove a lid from a jar, slip on a pair of rubber gloves, try again and it will come off easily.

To remove calcium build up in a kettle tip in a 50 - 50 mixture of white vinegar and water. It dissolves the calcium very quickly. Rinse the kettle twice to remove all residues.

Buttermilk substitute - combine 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar with sufficient milk to make a cupful.

Coconut milk substitute - combine one teaspoon of coconut essence with sufficient milk to make a cupful.

Creme fraiche substitute - combine equal quantities of sour cream and whipping cream.

Tomato sauce substitute - combine 3/4 cup of tomato paste with one cup of water.

Chutney substitute - mix apricot jam, Worcestershire sauce and a small amount of finely chopped garlic.

For mashed potatoes with a difference add a small amount of chicken or vegetable stock powder to the warm milk. Ensure it is full dissolved before adding to the cooked potatoes.

Store bananas in a separate bowl to other fruit. The gases from the bananas ripen the other fruit too quickly.

Use kitchen scissors for such jobs as separating strings of sausages, trimming the rind off bacon and finely chopping spring onion greens and fresh herbs and to cut seaweed sheets for sushi..
