Toning Your Skin

Toning your skin after cleansing will balance the pH of your skin.  Many cleansers affect the pH of your skin and a toner will quickly bring the balance back to normal.  Toning will remove any dirt and dead skin that cleansing has not removed and it will decrease the size of your pores, strengthen and also tighten your skin.  Toning also helps prevent wrinkles.

After you have toned your skin you are then ready to use other beneficial products you might be using to treat your skin.

Toning your skin - tips and hints.

Steam  your clean face and open up the pores. Boil 1 litre of water. Place it in a heat-proof bowl with some herbs.  Place your head, covered with a towel, over the bowl and steam your face for 5 - 10 minutes.  Splash cool water over your face and pat dry.

Whisk one egg white till fluffy.  Add one teaspoon each of runny honey and lemon juice and whisk again.  Leave on your face for 10 minutes and then rinse off with warm water.

For large pores try tomato pulp laid on your face.  Leave on for a few minutes and then rinse well.

Similarly you can dab tomato juice on your face.  Rinse well.

For drier skin use rose water as a toner.

For oily skin use Witch Hazel as a toner.

Chop one tablespoons of mint and add it to two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar.  Stand for a few hours and then add a cup of water.  Apply to the face with cotton balls.  Keep this solution in the fridge.

Boil two cups of mint leaves in one cup of water.  Strain and apply to your face with cotton balls.

To one cup of mineral water add the juice of one medium sized cucumber.  Apply this toner with a cotton ball.  Keep in the refrigerator.  This cooling mixture can be used to freshen up your face throughout the day.

Toner should be applied with cotton balls and gently wiped over your skin in upward directions.

Toner should only be applied after you have cleaned your face - do not substitute it for a cleanser.
